When her communist husband Robert (Emmanuel Bourdieu) is sent to a concentration camp during the World War II German occupation of France, young writer Marguerite Duras (Mélanie Thierry) begins a cat-and-mouse relationship with the Gestapo agent (Benoît Magimel) who arrested Robert in hopes of gaining information for the Resistance and locating her husband.
